Long time

Well it’s been a long time since I posted here. Work has been great and keeping me busy so far! (knock on wood)

Today I updated the references page with some more movies to watch. More information on the Gerson Method for curing your body of many problems through Nutrition and healthy eating.

Remember you are what you eat! If you eat crappy foods your will have a crappy body, you will look and feel like crap. I know this from first hand experience. The last few months my eating habits have changed dramatically and I feel much better, I look better and I am actually not feeling any depression for the first time in years.

I was Joking with a friend of mine a few months ago where I said I feel better than I have my entire adult life. He told me I was crazy and did I think I could do the things I could do when I was 20. I told him he was right that I couldn’t do the same things I could then.

Well,,, I was wrong I do think I am in better shape than I was when I was 20. I am back to being able to walk forever (walking without getting winded or tired) I can run/jog for a longer distance than ever before. The only ill effect is my joints are a little stiffer now than they were then.  A few fish oil tabs daily seem to keep that in check and if I ever decide to just start eating more fish I will not need the fish oil tablets. Another Item that helps this is that I have not smoked a cigarette for almost 9 years now. That really helps the stamina and lets the cardio-vascular system operate much smoother than 30 years ago.

Also BTW I am hovering around 230 lbs. for what I consider a solid 50 lbs weight loss that has been stable for over 2 months. I did have a few days where I gained a few pounds (240) due to adding back too many carbs for 4-5 days. but with just a few days of cutting back again they came right off and back to 230.

My plan is to stay 230 till my birthday (Jan 2nd) and then I am going to lose 30 pounds and be stabilized again in 6 months. Well, that’s my plan but I am pretty sure I can do it.

Another couple weeks

It’s really interesting how I can lose a few and stick them right back on. I am revising my earlier thoughts..

I used to think that if you have a high carb day that you only miss the weight loss for that day. I think this is not so true…

It seems like I need to restrict carbs for at least 3 days in a row for the fat to stay lost. Which means that it seems like if I go off the loss goals for a day (huge burger or some other high carb meal/s) I seem to gain back the last 2-3 days losses.

I am still not too worried, I have slowed down the loss to a few pounds a week. I desire to hit 225 by the end of Oct. Then I will stay balanced till the new year.

Results for the past few weeks

So as I said in the last message, I have not posted in a few weeks so here goes…

July 6th 2010 – 246 Pounds = 34 pounds gone

and

July 11th 2010 – 242 Pounds = 38 pounds gone

Interesting note: Most the results images I post are taken in the AM. The ones from July 11th are in the evening. My stomach muscles must relax during the day. In the side shots I look fatter at the 242 than I was at 246.

I broke my Camera screen so I didn’t get any Images since the 11th. I did manage to fix it last night with a replacement screen. I am currently at 240 and will take some new pics this weekend.

Long Time, No Post

I just realized that I have not posted any thing for a few weeks now. Too many projects not enough time in a day.

So I failed on maintaining my weight over the 3 week period. I managed to still lose 10 pounds. I wanted to maintain for a while so I decided to wait  some more time to see where I plateau based on my current eating habits.

It seems that with the new eating habits I can actually have Ice Cream daily without gaining weight. I asked myself how or why, The answer came in quite a surprising way…. The all natural Ice Cream from Marianne’s in Santa Cruz is pretty low on the carb scale. Well I/we guess/calculated that a single scoop is somewhere between 20 and 40 carbs depending on the flavors. So it does about double my intake otherwise but still saves a bunch over drinking anything besides non-sweetened beverages. And since a single 12oz. Pepsi = 28 carbs, I would much rather have Ice Cream after dinner than 2 Pepsi’s during the day.  I also believe the natural sugars used in the process for the ice cream are much much better carbs* than the manufactured sweeteners used by big company, pre-packaged products.

*Better Carbs = Less absorbency during the digestion process = Less potential to be stored as fat.

Just a note: Ahhh Bananas!

Well, as planned I have not lost any weight, more importantly I have not gained any. I have been indulging in many of the carb rich foods I used to eat although I will admit I have smaller portions and not so many carbs in a single day.

So far so good! Still 250, I have dropped a couple pounds but it comes right back depending in the time of the day. The plan is still working – Woohoo!

I do not know how accurate the following information is but it was a good read anyways. Remember that if your trying to lose weight you need to restrict even the good carbs. If your just maintaining your weight you can have all the good carbs (fruits) that you can handle.

Bananas:
A professor at CCNY for a physiological psych class told his class about bananas. He said the expression “going bananas”
is from the effects of bananas on the brain. Read on:

Bananas contain three natural sugars: sucrose, fructose, and glucose combined with fiber. A banana gives an instant, sustained, and substantial boost of energy. Research has proven that just two bananas provide enough energy for a strenuous 90-minute workout. No wonder the banana is the number one fruit with the world’s leading athletes.

But energy isn’t the only way a banana can help us keep fit.
It can also help overcome or prevent a substantial number of illnesses and conditions, making it a must to add to our daily diet.

Depression: According to a recent survey undertaken by MIND amongst people suffering from depression, many felt much better after eating a banana. This is because bananas contain tryptophan, a type of protein that the body converts into serotonin, known to make you relax, improve your mood, and generally make you feel happier.

PMS: Forget the pills – eat a banana. The vitamin B6 it contains regulates blood glucose levels, which can affect your mood.

Anemia: High in iron, bananas can stimulate the production of hemoglobin in the blood and so helps in cases of anemia.

(England) were helped through their exams this year by eating bananas at breakfast, break, and lunch in a bid to boost their brain power. Research has shown that the potassium-packed fruit can assist learning by making pupils more alert.

Constipation: High in fiber, including bananas in the diet can help restore normal bowel action, helping to overcome the problem without resorting to laxatives.

Hangovers: One of the quickest ways of curing a hangover is to make a banana milkshake, sweetened with honey. The banana calms the stomach and, with the help of the honey, builds up depleted blood sugar levels, while the milk soothes and re-hydrates your system.

Heartburn: Bananas have a natural antacid effect in the body, so if you suffer from heartburn, try eating a banana for soothing relief.

Morning sickness: Snacking on bananas between meals helps to keep blood sugar levels up and avoid morning sickness.

Mosquito bites: Before reaching for the insect bite cream, try rubbing the affected area with the inside of a banana skin. Many people find it amazingly successful at reducing swelling and irritation.

Nerves: Bananas are high in B vitamins, which help calm the nervous system.

Overweight and at work? Studies at the Institute of Psychology in Austria found pressure at work leads to gorging on comfort food like chocolate and chips. Looking at 5,000 hospital patients, researchers found the most obese were more likely to be in high-pressure jobs. The report concluded that, to avoid panic-induced food cravings, we need to control our blood sugar levels by snacking on high carbohydrate foods every two hours to keep levels steady.

Ulcers: The banana is used as the dietary food against intestinal disorders because of its soft texture and smoothness. It is the only raw fruit that can be eaten without distress in over-chronicler cases. It also neutralizes over-acidity and reduces irritation by coating the lining of the stomach.

Temperature control: Many other cultures see bananas as a “cooling” fruit that can lower both the physical and emotional temperature of expectant mothers. In Thailand, for example, pregnant women eat bananas to ensure their baby is born with a cool temperature.

Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD): Bananas can help SAD sufferers because they contain the natural mood enhancer tryptophan.

Smoking and tobacco use: Bananas can also help people trying to give up smoking. The B6 and B12 they contain, as well as the potassium and magnesium found in them, help the body recover from the effects of nicotine withdrawal.

Stress: Potassium is a vital mineral, which helps normalize the heartbeat, sends oxygen to the brain, and regulates your body’s water balance. When we are stressed, our metabolic rate rises, thereby reducing our potassium levels. These can be re-balanced with the help of a high-potassium banana snack.

Strokes: According to research in The New England Journal of Medicine, eating bananas as part of a regular diet can cut the risk of death by strokes by as much as 40%!

Warts: Those keen on natural alternatives swear that if you want to kill off a wart, take a piece of banana skin and place it on the wart, with the yellow side out. Carefully hold the skin in place with a plaster or surgical tape!

So, a banana really is a natural remedy for many ills. When you compare it to an apple, it has four times the protein, twice the carbohydrate, three times the phosphorus, five times the vitamin A and iron, and twice the other vitamins and minerals. It is also rich in potassium and is one of the best value foods around. So maybe its time to change that well-known phrase so that we say, “A banana a day keeps the doctor away!”

No results this week. :)

I am taking 2 or 3 weeks of adding back in some carbs and really paying attention to the quantity that I eat. My goal is to not gain any weight and to not lose any weight.

I have stayed at 250 for the last week by having a few sandwiches for lunch and few scoops of ice cream (it’s so yummy now that I do not eat it daily). I would go for Eggs Benedict if tomorrow was not fathers day and every where with a Bene will be crazy busy. There’s always next weekend 🙂

Interesting results

This week was amazing I was not expecting to lose more than 1 or 2 pounds but 5 went away 🙂

This week it’s 250 (30 pounds gone) and more interestingly I seem to have lost more inches than previously. I realized this week that I should have been taking measurements also as that might have been interesting to see the ratios between weight and inches.

Another week and gone!

Hi all,

Another week has passed by and things are still progressing well.

The weight loss is not as fast as at the beginning but still good. I am feeling better than I have in the last 15 years, I have more energy and for some reason I am having a real hard time just sitting in front of my computer.

This week 255 = 25 pounds gone! It’s amazing how much that is.

Another week and a few pounds

Interestingly I had Ice cream and Lasagna this week, still dropped about 5 pounds

I am not craving so much sugar anymore and things with sugar seem really sweet. I am tempted to have a drink from a Pepsi. I would bet it is too sweet for me now. – lol

I do have some questions about low carb pasta, it does not make sense to me that the package can list 26 carbs per serving, taking away 5 grams from fiber and only report 2 sugar. Shouldn’t it still be 21 carbs converted to sugar? I need more research!

20 Worst Drinks in America

Today I came across a very interesting read. It doesn’t surprise me that much but some of the comparisons are quite funny.

Men’s Health magazine looks at the Worst 20 Drinks in America. They base these stats on Calories, Fats and Sugars. I found it a little eye opening. I guess it’s all about awareness, I definitely would rather have one half of a cherry pie than a single Sobe Green Tea, that was a crazy example.
